Relieving stress and anxiety is one of the top requests from all of our clients. Unraveling the unique circumstances that cause each person stress and anxiety through the MIND DUMP process is a side benefit of the vision board process.
Here's some quick tips. Start your day alone in a peaceful setting for an hour to let your mind wander and organize your cognitive thoughts into a successful agenda for the day.
When you get home after a long hard day at work don't ride the magic chair doing nothing expecting the box to entertain you. A thousand times nothing is nothing. Stay out of the magic chair in the evening. Don't watch live programming which assaults your mind unexpectedly with commercials and information you don't control. Stay off social media and away from anything that suddenly fills your mind with concerns about things you don't control.
Take control of what enters your mind and use electronic media to your advantage. If you want to know about world events or politics, research it. Don't watch media for your information. Media broadcasters have personal opinions and use words that trigger emotions in you to stay tuned so you will buy products their advertisers sell. If you choose to watch t.v., watch informative documentaries to expand your circle of influence. Use the internet as a learning device.
Your most significant accomplishment in life is not what you do for work but how you spend time with your loved ones. Take advantage of your children's games and accomplishments. It may take proactive scheduling and some action, but it will reap significantly more dividends than riding the roller coaster of work. Walk around the block with your spouse or exercise physically at night. It is your body's way of recalibrating and rebalancing your metabolism.
Minds are made for creativity, not containment. Do something creative with your hands in the evening to stimulate the billions of neurons in your brain. Learn how to play music, paint, or draw. Read a book or listen to meditation music before going to sleep. Your mind replays the thirty minutes before you go to sleep over and over during the night. Fill the thirty minutes with peaceful, pleasant experiences and you will sleep well.
Here's an excerpt from Steve Jobs' commencement speech at Rice University. He left Rice after six months to pursue developing Apple because he was asked to study courses he felt could have been more helpful.
He began his commencement speech with the words: Remembering I'll be dead soon.
Every day dare to follow your heart and intuition, your heart and intuition somehow already know what you truly want to become. Don't waste your life living what someone else thinks you should be doing. Don't be trapped by someone else's code of beliefs or other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your inner voice.
You can't connect the dots looking forward. You can only connect them by looking backward. You have to trust that, somehow, your heart and intuition will connect the dots in the future. Believing the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart.
The single most important tool you will ever encounter to make big decisions in business and life
